The New Age of Management Apprenticeships

At a time when management performance has been identified as the biggest factor in boosting productivity, there is an urgent need for UK employers to raise their game when it comes to management and leadership.

The Government are tackling this head on by creating leadership and management apprenticeship standards and are incentivising employers by offering significant funding from April 2017. These trailblazing standards have been created by employers for employers, in consultation with the Chartered Management Institute as the leading UK authority for management and leadership. All employers need to be acting now to be ready for the changes that come into effect from April 2017.

A fresh outlook.

For many years, apprenticeships have been focused on getting school leavers into entry level technical roles. This is an out of date perception. The new reality is that management apprenticeships will radically change the way that management training is delivered and funded.

The new management apprenticeships are structured, work-based training programmes that are delivered and assessed against the new leadership and management apprenticeship standards.

As an approved provider, Adalta have developed two powerful Management Apprenticeship Training Programmes that really pack a punch and can be delivered to new and existing staff. Not only do they meet the new standards, they provide a range of delivery and accreditation options and ensure that they evidence performance improvement from day one. The focus is very much on progression, and programmes are typically delivered over a period of 12-18 months.

The management apprenticeship programmes are aimed at:

  1. Team Leaders / Supervisors
    A team leader/supervisor is a first-line management role, with operational/project responsibilities or responsibility for managing a team to deliver a clearly defined outcome.
  2. Operations / Departmental Manager
    An operations/departmental manager is generally someone who is able to manage teams and/or projects, and has responsibility for planning, delivering and achieving departmental goals and objectives.

You can’t afford to ignore it. As of April 2017, organisations with a total payroll of £3million or more will be required to pay towards the national apprenticeship programme via an ‘Apprenticeship Levy’. The Levy will be set at 0.5% of payroll, minus a £15,000 Allowance. Hence if your payroll is £10 million then the Levy will be £10M x 0.5% -£15K = £35,000. If your payroll is £100M the Levy will be £485,000.

Any business with a payroll of LESS than £3 million will not be impacted by the Levy and will pay nothing.

To meet the costs of management apprenticeship training, the Government will invest a core government contribution of £2 for every £1 of investment made by an employer up to a maximum set for the standard. We do the hard work for you so that you can take advantage of the funding. So you can have your cake and eat it.
