During 2008/9 Metronet Rail undertook major stabilisation works to railway cuttings in the Hillingdon area of London. A bungalow located immediately adjacent to the crest of one of the cuttings required buttressing and a fenced walkway access was planned to be installed between the property and the railway below.
In order to construct this structure in the extremely restricted space available between the property and the edge of the cutting a RAMWALL solution was selected because of its versatility and ease of construction.
The end of the RAMWALL required a flight of steps to take the walkway to a separately constructed stairway down the face of the cutting and this was readily achieved by adjusting the stagger of the RAMWALL layers.
Stainless steel components were selected throughout to provide the required 120-year design life.
