Metronet Rail is undertaking and extensive programme of embankment stabilisation in the Central Line using piled reinforced concrete retaining walls and re graded slopes. To form end-walls in the variable slopes RAMWALL has been selected because of its adaptability to the difficult and constrained geometry imposed by the new and existing structures. In particular, the need to prevent additional earth pressures created by the re-profiling work from imposing further ground loadings on an already weakened and groundanchored bridge required the construction of an independent end-wall to support the regarded slope retained above a longitudinal piled reinforced concrete wall.
The RAMWALL provides a fully reinforced solution that is tailored to fit the site geometry constructed by the site personnel with only minimal training and supervision. In total 3 RAMWALLS are planned for the scheme.
Stainless steel components were selected throughout to provide the required 120-year design life.
